Survey on higher level Business/Kitchen Management Skills

Date Added: 17th October 2007

The WA Hospitality and Tourism Industry Training Council invites you and your cooking personnel to assist us in a most important survey of the need for higher level Business/Kitchen Management Skills within the industry in Western Australia. This need was initially described in a report entitled “A Recipe for Change” which was published in July 2001 and it is important for the industry to re-visit this matter to determine the current views of employers, cooks and chefs.

It is anticipated that the information received from the industry through this survey will be extremely useful in providing advice which can influence the nature of the training to be provided to cooks and chefs in the future. It will also provide a source of current information which can influence training policy in the Vocational Education and Training sector, particularly in regard to apprenticeships.

Within this pack you will find two types of survey document, the first is an employer survey which we would like you to complete and a second which we would like you to pass on to your cooks and chefs. Multiple copies of the employee document have been provided however if there is insufficient we would appreciate your copying others for your staff. Inside you will also find several stamped, self addressed envelopes for return of the surveys. All you need to do is insert your completed surveys and drop them in the mail.

The completed survey documents will be delivered to the consultant working on the project, Mr Alf Standen, Principal Consultant of Training and Assessment Services. Alf will be collating the information gathered through the survey and reviewing the information. This will be done in the strictest confidence and no specific information about any organisation or individual will be made available to anyone. Once the documentation has been processed the aggregated information will be made known to the WAHTITC and the original surveys will be destroyed.

It would be very much appreciated if you could respond to the survey by November 18th and it is intended that aggregated outcomes of the survey will be provided back to the industry shortly thereafter. Thank you in advance for your input; I look forward to your participation in this important event.
